What if the UFO story didn’t really begin in 1947?
What if some of the ideas running through modern ufology like hidden teachers, superior intelligences, chosen intermediaries, warnings about humanity, transformation, initiation and even attempts to steer civilization, have much older counterparts in occultism, mystery schools, mythology and esoteric tradition?
In this episode of Hangin’ with Mist3rDouglas, I sit down with researcher and writer Jean-Luc Infini for one hell of a trip down the rabbit hole.
Jean-Luc’s work explores the overlap between UFOs, occultism, secret societies, spiritual traditions, mythology, intelligence history and what René Guénon called initiation and counter-initiation.
We follow the thread through the Black Madonna, Synarchy, Saint-Yves d’Alveydre, Agartha, the King of the World, St. John the Evangelist, Rosicrucianism, the Holy Grail, Ernest Scott’s People of the Secret, John Keel’s Eighth Tower, UFO archetypes, science fiction and the image of the Grey alien.
One of my favorite ideas in the conversation is Jean-Luc’s exploration of science fiction itself as a possible carrier of an “impulse” whether understood metaphysically, culturally, psychologically or simply as the strange way human imagination prepares us for ideas that haven’t arrived yet.
And then we get to the question I care about most:
what can we do about it?
Because if there really are competing currents of influence through lenses like spiritual, psychological, cultural, political, technological or otherwise, how do we distinguish something that expands us from something that captures us?
Jean-Luc’s answer becomes surprisingly practical. Watch for hatred. Watch for greed and status becoming measures of human worth. Watch for the moment a belief makes everyone outside of it an enemy. And maybe pay attention to whether the things you’re following are making you more compassionate, more grounded and more capable, or simply more afraid, more certain and easier to steer.
This is a BIG conversation.
There are historical claims, esoteric interpretations, speculative connections and plenty of places where Jean-Luc openly says “I don’t know.” That’s part of why I enjoyed it so much. We’re following connections, comparing maps and asking questions.
